A bit about the spirited and ambitious Bop to Tottom creator, visionary, business woman, entrepreneur, and fashionista,
She’s had her hand in design, fashion and gifts since the early ‘80s. While beginning as an apprentice in Boston, she found her way to Kingston, NY in 1979, where she then moved on to reupholstering furniture for a few years, followed by managing a high-end children’s clothing company for 11 years, and then ran Anyone Can Whistle retail store, an entity of Woodstock Percussion, for seven years. Settling in Kingston, Karen instantly was filled with an overwhelming feeling to own and operate her own boutique. Realizing her desire to open her own store, she flung open the doors to Bop to Tottom a little over 18 years ago, never looking back.
Karen is community minded being an avid volunteer, she is currently on the Board of Trustees for SUNY Ulster, and previously served on the Ulster Community College Foundation, Inc. Board, the Arts Alliance of Ulster County, Hudson Valley Aids Auction, Friends of the Senate House, Kingston Uptown Business Association, Ulster County Chamber of Commerce, YWCA, Kingston Tourism Task Force, City of Kingston Board of Ethics, Ulster County School to Work Program, and the Kingston Farmers Market, which she is a founder and served as president of the board and marketing manager.
Karen resides in Kingston, NY.
“I call it conscious commerce. My philosophy of life is that everything is about the exchange of energy.”
We want you to be part of our family!
So, we’ll let you in on a little secret of how we got our name…
What’s in a name you ask? Everything! Especially an unforgettable name, BOP TO TOTTOM!
A name, as you know, can make a lasting impression & that’s what we’ve done. (‘Cause you know you’re itching to ask why the “B” & “T” are switched!)
Well, our fashionista, leader-of-the-pack, KAREN, her dad was a bit of a stickler on pronunciation & enunciation while she was growing up! Fast forward to envisioning opening her own boutique, she was baffled about a name. She was at a photoshoot in NYC chatting away, brainstorming with friends. She said “my shop will have the whole thing, from BOP TO TOTTOM!”
